you know how everyone complains about stereotypes and how they're creating racial and social divisions in our otherwise happy-clappy singaporeland? the point is, how does a society function without stereotypes? how does one "remove" stereotypes?
for one, stereotypes are not even completely untrue, it's just a generalization of a clique based on the majority. and since the majority forms such a strong image, we have to learn to live with stereotypes, since you can't remove them unless you plan to exterminate the majority.
for another, are we dense enough to be blanketed by the business of stereotypes? would i not befriend someone with the surname Ler because i have no wish to be brutally murdered? i think stereotypes have lost it's place in the actual society and only function as a guide for filmakers. the existence of stereotypes evolved a new skill in human beings; to pry beneath the stereotypes to see the person hiding behind it. and since humans are not too comfortable with people trying to peek into our lives, all that happens is that we build up layer after layer of pretences far thicker than any blanket of stereotypes.
so it's kinda pointless to go on and on about stereotypes cos it's just a marketing technique of the film industry, otherwise known as the Jack Neo industry, and it's not of any real effect in our lives.
can you believe lee kwan yew wants to run for elections again? for the love of god can that guy just please retire and enjoy his ending golden years? so much for the PAP trying to build up a young and vibrant and hip image. the age of THE GUY is probably equivalent to the rest of the party multiplied together.
and i wish you wouldn't keep me waiting around like this cos it's quite scary for me.
